Where do you come from? What is your purpose?

The Bible teaches that we come from God and are made for love—to love Him and our fellow humans.

God is perfect love, light and life. This means that He is kind, good and the source of all flourishing and joy. The Bible teaches that God exists eternally in perfect love as Father, Son and Holy Spirit: the Father in love begets the Son, the Son is forever in the embrace of His Father and the Spirit is the love between the Father and the Son. In this way God is love - always giving and receiving love within Father, Son and Spirit in an eternal dance as it were.

It was from this love that God made humans in His own likeness: to receive the love of God and to share that love with each other. You were made for love. The law that God gave was to direct us to love Him and each other. But when God created humans they rebelled against Him and displayed all the evil and brokenness in our world; resulting in our love to God being broken and our love to others being shattered as well. This rebellion against God and His rule of love is called Sin. Sin is our failure to love God and our fellow humans. This cut us off from the good things that come from God. Where there was life now there is death for all humans. Where there was love there is now broken love. Where there was delight and joy now there is tragedy and sorrow.

Have you failed to love God, to honor Him as the Giver of your life and seek Him? Have you failed to love your fellow humans? Have you lied, stolen from them, hurt them with your words or actions, and not always sought their good? God sees even the intention of our hearts: to Him even lustful looks is like taking advantage of someone, and a heart of hate is murder. Do you see that now all humans are directed away from God toward evil, joined in rebellion against God and headed away from Him—His love light and life? Where God reigns we refer to as being above us—heaven. Where humans go who reject God is called hell—the state of being cut off from God’s love, light and life. And this is your destiny and the destiny of all humans as we are—separated from God.

But God did not give up on His family: the Father sent the Son to become human, so that there could be a new humanity, reunited with God.

The name of the Son of God when He was on the earth was Jesus of Nazareth. He was “the Christ” or the “anointed King” of the new humanity. Jesus lived a life as a human perfectly without doing anyone wrong, He died like sinful humans and He came back to life. He did this to be a sacrifice for the guilt of humans and that they could all now live because He has conquered death. Humans did wrong and deserved God’s punishment and to be separated from Him in death. But Jesus died as a human instead so that the new humanity could be forgiven of their wrong because Jesus was punished in their place. So because God became a human, humans can be become reunited with God. The way we do this is by trusting Jesus to forgive our wrongs, direct our life, and give us life with Him forever after death, and we will become a member of Jesus’ Kingdom, the Family of God on the Earth. The Father becomes our Father, the Son becomes our Rescuer and King, and the Spirit lives within us to fill us with God’s love and make us like Him again, living in perfect love.

Jesus promised that He will come again so that those who are in His kingdom can enjoy the love of God and their brothers and sisters in God’s family forever in the restored Kingdom of God on earth, but that those who reject Jesus will be judged for their crimes against God and their fellow humans and be cut off from God’s love, light and life forever.

This is the story of the Bible and we, the followers of Jesus, strongly urge you to read it. Hear what Jesus says:

“Come to me all of you who are tired and heavily burdened and I will give you rest.”

We call you to trust Jesus as your Rescuer and King then join a local community of Jesus followers near you and join in the work of God because He is making everything new again.
